Astronaut-artist displays artwork at LBJ Library

Alan Bean said he feels like the luckiest man in the world, both here on Earth and in the skies above.
"I remember saying, ‘This is the moon, we’re really here, this is the moon," Bean said, "and I looked up and the earth was right there."
Bean became the fourth man on the moon as part of the Apollo 12 mission in 1969. He has relived that moment through his paint brush ever since.
"My friends, other astronauts, said, ‘Look, you’ve got to quit painting what other people paint. You’ve got to paint the moon … ."
