Have you ever thought about the design of our American flag? What difference would it make if the colors were changed or the stripes were vertical rather than horizontal? To make sure, the U.S. Flag Code describes the flag in great detail in Section 1.
Sec. 1. Flag; stripes and stars
The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be forty-eight stars, white in a blue field.
In my warped way of thinking, a flag designed differently would just be wrong. Vertical stripes would be all wrong, even if the Union were still blue with white stars. Having a hard time imagining a flag like this, I decided to build one quickly to see what it would be like. As you can see, this doesn’t bring about the same sense of pride the first picture does.
I didn’t put fifty stars in the right places, and the dimensions are slightly off, but you still get the picture. Sorry Betsy. Just letting my imagination run wild.
